Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement
– The AMA began developing physician performance measures in 1998, and in 2000 started convening the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, which the AMA staffs and operates at an expense of $1,00,000 per year. It is the primary physician-led initiative in the country to develop physician level performance measures.
In addition to including experts in methodology and clinical experts representing more than 65 national medical specialties and state medical societies, members also include AHRQ, CMS, JCAHO (liaison member), and NCQA (liaison member).
The Consortium has adopted 98 clinical measures on 17 clinical topics through mid-2006. The following performance measures are listed on the website in mid-2006:| Performance Measure Clinical Topic | Number of Measures |
